Ageism and sexism are rife here, too. Coming from the world of PR, where female company directors are well represented, I wasn’t expecting it. As an example, a male investor told me, “You’re not the usual type we go for.” And a young female entrepreneur told me that once, after a pitch, an investor said to her, “I’m not sure if I should ask you for your business plan or a date.” It turns out that desirability, or the lack thereof, is a problem either way if you’re a woman who wants to work in tech in London.
Book tech: Time to step up | The Bookseller
‘Tech’s got problem with women’
That line gets bandied about as often as the death of publishing.
But has book tech got a problem with women?
As the only female who pitched alongside seven male founders in the FutureBook 2015 Conference’s BookTech Showcase, I’m calling for more women to start up and step up next year.

Your name no longer matters on your CV – here’s what does
In the United Kingdom, greater gender diversity in senior-executive teams corresponds to a huge performance uplift in a startlingly linear fashion: for every 10 percent increase in gender diversity, net profit rose by 3.5 percent.
Put simply, diverse talent pools make excellent business sense.
Despite these facts, statistically speaking, women and ethnic minorities remain dramatically underrepresented in senior leadership roles, across many sectors. They are less likely to be funded, less likely to be called for interview, less likely to be promoted, less likely to be placed in leadership roles, and even less likely to receive equal pay for the same role.
